Additionally, I have tried adding a footnote using Type/Insert Footnote. This deletes the footnote and the "new" reference number "1" does not appear in the footnotes section at all, indicating that the manually corrected footnote reference in the text is no longer seen as a footnote reference by InDesign. I have tried to manually renumber the footnote references in the text by selecting the reference number in the text and overtyping number "1". In one thread, a workaround of starting a new text frame is offered, but since working with two columns, starting a next text frame would divide both columns, not just the single column in which the new chapter begins. I have learned that, in InDesign, sections always start a new page. I've explored InDesign menus and Support Community discussions for solutions. However, when pasting this text from Word to InDesign, the footnote numbering is continuous from one chapter to the next, meaning that the Section divisions in Word did not transfer to InDesign. I need the footnotes that accompany the scripture text to start numbering a 1 at the beginning of each chapter, and each chapter must continue on the page following the end of the previous chapter. The text is imported from Microsoft Word, in which each chapter had been set to begin a new Section, and the footnotes started numbering at 1 in each chapter. Convention for books of the Bible are that each chapter continues on the same page/column as the previous chapter since chapters are typically only one or two pages. The text, in this case, must be set in two columns, with footnotes in one column at the bottom of the page.
